10. Cockapoo – Poodle + Cocker Spaniel
One of the original “designer dogs”, the Cockapoo has been with us since the 1960s. The product of a Miniature or Toy Poodle crossed with a Cocker Spaniel, the Cockapoo is known for his sweet and often clownish personality. The Cockapoo is a lap dog, but he is also intelligent, and easily trainable and quite the little athlete.
His affectionate nature combined with his good looks makes him one of the most popular of the designer dogs. And, being the oldest, he is also one of the most consistent when it comes to traits to expect from this dog.
There’s no denying that the Maltipoo, often called a Moodle, is a cutie. What really grabs you is this cute little dog’s persona. Because of his loving and fun-loving nature, grown-ups, as well as kids and seniors, will love him.
A cross-breed between a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle, the Maltipoo is usually non-shedding and his small size makes him an excellent companion for apartment dwellers. He loves life, and his perfect day includes playing games, going for a walk, and racing through the house. He enjoys long cuddles and is sensitive to his people’s wants and needs.
Like most of the hybrids on this list, he’s intelligent and easy to train.
If you’d like a cute little Poodle Hybrid more content to spend the day on your lap, the loyal and affectionate Peekapoo may be more your style.
No, he’s not a Pokemon, this Doodle Dog is the cross between a Pekingese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle.
Like the Cockapoo, the Peekapoo is among the oldest Designer Dog breeds, developed back in the 1950’s.
The Peekapoo is a loving and loyal dog who is dedicated to his family. An ideal lapdog, he delights in being part of every family activity. He is gentle and an intelligent dog who is happiest in the company of his owner. Protective of his family, he’ll defend them with everything his mall body can muster., although we have to admit that he’s not very intimidating, it’s the thought that counts.
6. Yorkipoo – Poodle + Yorkshire Terrier
When you take a dog as cute as cute as the wee Yorkshire Terrier and cross it with a toy poodle, you get a hybrid that is beyond adorable.
The Yorkipoo is friendly, playful, smart, and cute as all get out. His small stature makes him best suited to a home with adults or older children and he’s quite comfortable in a small apartment.
He’s an active and sometimes mischievous dog, but he does have a sense of humor.
He has plenty of energy to be burned off and he loves to play when he’s not parked on your lap watching Animal Facts. And, his ability to run at supersonic speeds and jump like Jordan can be surprising to those who aren’t expecting a cute, little canine Superman.
5. Pomapoo – Poodle + Pomeranian
If you are looking for a small-breed dog that possesses the affectionate nature of a Pomeranian and the intelligence of a Poodle, the Pomapoo may be the right Doodle Dog for you.
This Pomapoo is known for his loving and affectionate nature as much as for his small size and big personality and no less than a bit of cuteness.
The Pomapoo is typically friendly and affectionate by nature, though he may have more Pomeranian-like tendencies and be reserved around strangers.
But, he may also be fairly outgoing at times, and eager to make friends.
4. Shihpoo – Poodle + Shih Tzu
Shihpoo … wait, can I say that on YouTube? Anyway. The Shihpoo is obvious a Shih Tzu cross that is always cute with an alert expression and sturdy body.
He’s friendly and outgoing, and has a high level of intelligence and trainability, although some can be a bit on the hard-headed side.
So, what’s up with all these weird names? The naming conventions used for Designer Dogs is what is called a portmanteau, which is basically combining to words. It started with breeds like the Cockapoo and Peekapoo and later the Labradoodle and just sort of stuck. Although, it does lend itself to some pretty obvious puerile humor with Shih Tzu mixes. Can you guess what a Jack Russel Shih Tzu mix is called?
OK, back to the list.
3. Chipoo – Poodle + Chihuahua
By this point, you should probably be able to figure out that a Chipoo is a toy poodle chihuahua mix.
He may not be as open or friendly to strangers as some of the other dogs on this list, but the Chipoo is loving and affectionate with his people.
He is a great companion dog and loves to be part of a family environment.
He loves to play, is quite intelligent, considered easy to train due to his desire to please. He is also known to be quite independent, turning any space into his own personal play zone – including a small apartment – so lots of toys are a wise investment.
Speaking of wise investments, have you seen our Animal Facts Merch. We’ve got links to Animal Facts t-shirts and more in the description.
2. Cavapoos – Poodle + Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
The Cavapoo, also known as the Cavoodle, is an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Poodle Hybrid who became popular through Australia in the 1990s.
The Cavapoo is a gentle and loving dog who gets along very well with young children as we as with other small pets.
The Cavapoo prefers the company of humans and can become strongly attached to a specific owner. He’s intelligent and responds well to gentle guidance. And he’s just super cute.

Finally, we get to the Lhasa Poo. Small and cuddly, the Lhasapoo makes a wonderful companion for singles, couples, seniors and families alike, so pretty much everyone. Gentle in nature and extremely playful, this dog makes a great addition to any growing family, as they do well with both children and other dogs.
A mix of Poodle and Lhasa Apso, this doodle dog is gaining in popularity. He is small but mighty!
Due to his moderate activity requirements and small size, the Lhasapoo would do just fine in an apartment, so long as he gets a bit of exercise every day.
